The Stuart Highlanders are seeking pipers and drummers to join us for the 2010 season.
Grade 2 This is an exciting time for the Stuart Highlanders upper level band. In 2009 the upper grade band rapidly climbed to the top of Grade 3, winning every US-based contest entered, placing second at Maxville, sweeping the Celtic Classic, and receiving a number of AGL designations along the way. In December 2009, the band was upgraded to Grade 2.
One of the unique features of the band is it's traditional setup : pipers play hide bags, wooden chanters, and cane reeds. Pipers are responsible for purchasing their own pipe bag and drone reeds, most other pieces of equipment are covered by the band. To keep things interesting, the band selects relatively challenging settings for competition pieces. We practice on Tuesday nights in Wilmington Massachusetts - just north of Boston and easily accessible from route 93. For long-distance players we offer a monthly Sunday practice schedule. We have a number of players travelling from northern New York State, New Hampshire and Connecticut - so ride sharing or even satellite band practices may be possible. Grade 4 If you wish to join the Stuart Highlanders but are not quite ready for the upper grade, please consider joining our grade 4 band. The grade 4 band is also a serious competitive band and has progressed significantly over 2009. The Grade 4 band not only is a thriving organization on it's own merits but it also functions as a feeder band for the higher level group. We are always looking for new members, particularly youth who are interested in joining. There are a number of instructors in the organization if you are a novice.
