Attention Pipers, and friends of Pipers! We are excited to announce that Matthew Farrigan of Highland Circus is donating a set of his exquisitely made custom Parlor pipes. The pipes will be raffled during our concert on the 27th of March. The pipes can be seen below, and will be on display at the concert. Someone is going to go home from the concert with a huge smile on their face. Thank you Matthew!

December 2009 - Stuart Highlanders are excited to announce that the Eastern United States Pipe Band association has upgraded the former Grade 3 band, to Grade 2. The 2009 success of the band, and the quality and quantity of anticipated new members for 2010 contributed to the decision of the band leadership to apply for the upgrade. With the upgrade, the goal of competing in Scotland at the World's in 2011 in Grade 2 is now confirmed. |

Congratulations to one of our younger Stuart Highlanders, Quinn McCormack, for placing 5th overall, junior solo snare drumming, at the Balmoral Classic which is held on November 7th, 2009 in Pittsburgh PA. We are all proud of you Quinn! From the Balmoral Classic website:
"This national youth competition is the perfect event to strengthen American piping and drumming and to reward the nation's best young players with the recognition they deserve. It is our vision that The Balmoral Classic will become the standard to which talented young American pipers aspire, providing them the experience and the confidence necessary to compete on international platforms."

Pipe Major Adam Holdaway and snare drummer Brian Morgan were recently added to the EUSPBA judges' panel. Four certified judges now play in the band - Pipe Major Adam Holdaway, and drummers Scott Armit, Donald MacLeod and Brian Morgan. From all the band members - congratulations Adam and Brian! |

Congratulations to newest band members Avens Ridgeway (Union, ME) and Patrick Downing (Harwich, MA) for competing at the Nicol-Brown Amateur Invitational Piping Contest in Albany, New York on October 10, 2009. Both pipers played extremely well in a field of well-seasoned competitors. Ridgeway finished with 4th in the Piobaireachd and a 5th in the MSR events, giving her a 4th place finish overall. Downing ended with a 3rd place showing in the 6/8 Marches event. Well done to the overall winner Anthony Masterson of Houston, and to everyone who competed in the contest. All events were judged by Murray Henderson, Amy Garson and Andrew Douglas. |

Two pieces of exciting news: The band leadership has submitted a request to EUSPBA for an upgrade from grade 3 to grade 2. The 2009 success of the band, and the quality and quantity of anticipated new members for 2010 contributed to this decision. Pending the upgrade, the band has voted to set a goal of competing in Scotland at the World's in 2011 in Grade 2. Logistical, musical, and financial preparations are all underway. |
