The purposes for which the corporation is formed are to foster a greater appreciation of the art of bagpipe music and Scottish culture among the members and the general public and to teach highland piping and drumming.
The Stuart Highlanders believe that to improve the playing of its membership and other pipers and drummers in our community we must teach and perform. Our philanthropic efforts provide scholarship tuition and education to local members in need. Our spring concert in Chelmsford, MA has grown to attract a crowd that fills the Performing Arts Center each year. In addition to local concerts, the band has recently performed in Montreal and Scotland. We estimate that our music reaches more than 500,000 spectators annually through concerts, parades, competitions, and other public events and performances.
Our outreach includes formal training to community Police and Fire pipe bands in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and New York. Bands currently being instructed by members of the Stuart Highlanders include the City of Albany Pipe Band, Boston Gaelic Colum(Boston Police), Massachusetts State Police Pipes and Drums, 103rd Electricians Pipes and Drums, Boston Gaelic Fire Brigade, Westford Firefighters Pipes and Drums, Bunker Hill Pipe Band, Clan MacPherson Pipes and Drums, North Shore Pipe Band, Greater Boston Firefighters Pipes and Drums, Brockton Firefighters Pipes and Drums, and Rhode Island Professional Firefighters Pipes and Drums.
